Winter and Off-Season Fishing Guide

Fishing the waters around Panama City, Florida, in fall and winter can be as much an adventure as the big runs of summer.

October and November are the time of the year when the flounder migrate out of the bays around Panama City, Florida, and into the Gulf of Mexico to spawn. We have caught as many as three limits of flounder on a really good day. I’m talking about the big doormats, not the little ones you have to measure every time. This is actually one of my favorite types of fishing. I love catching flounder almost as much as I like eating them!

Another fun fish that can be taken on live bait, artificial or fly are the big spanish that are staging to migrate back south for the winter. Fish in the five, six and seven-pound range are not uncommon this time of year.

We also can get some great trout and reds that time of year. Some stage and head to the gulf while some stay in the bay. During fall and winter the days are cool and the fishing is hot. Some other species that are abundant during winter are mangrove snapper, whiting, silver trout and some big black sea bass. All of these are caught on light tackle throughout the winter months If you’re with a guide that knows how.

During the heart of the winter, Warren Bayou a.k.a. “steam plant canal” fills up with fish. There is no fish that swims the waters around Panama City, Florida, that you can’t catch in Warren Bayou during the winter. We have caught everything including pompano and tarpon. You have to be careful though, Warren Bayou is catch and release only from November 1 through the end of February each year.

As you can see, the right guide can put you on fish with light tackle, live bait or on “the fly” during the winter. All you have to do is send me an email or pick up the phone and give me a call for a great and fun trip

A fishing experience you won’t forget!
